Taylor comes to Portsmouth Abbey School after serving as the Head Lacrosse Coach at Savannah Country Day School for two years and Georgetown Day School for 12 years. When he is not on the fields, you can find Taylor fishing and camping.
Silas is a Clinical Training Specialist for the State of Rhode Island where he implements training programs focused on clinical/social service topics. He has previously served as a social caseworker for the state, and the Director of Social Services for Country Gardens Health & Rehab. He also serves as an Assistant Director of Football Operations for Breakthrough Elite, coaching at B.O.N.E & Clocked In Athlete. Silas has coached at several other schools. He has football playing experience at the semi-professional, D-1 collegiate level at KSU and the Ohio high school level. At Kent State, he was named EFL Football Rookie of the Year. He was a high school all-state athlete in both football and track.
Julia

Asst. Director of Athletics, Manor Head Houseparent
Julia grew up in Darien, Connecticut, and graduated from Canterbury School in 2017. While at Canterbury, she helped the field hockey team capture the Western New England Championship in both 2014 and 2015 and win the New England Championship in 2016. In addition to field hockey, she also played lacrosse and ice hockey. Julia then went on to earn a B.A. in Communications with a Minor in Exercise Science from St. Lawrence University where she was a member of the field hockey team. Julia spent her summers interning alongside top trainers at Prentiss Hockey Performance in Stamford, Connecticut and coached FC United Field Hockey Club in Greenwich, Connecticut. Julia is the head houseparent in Manor House. In addition to being assistant director of athletics, Julia coaches varsity field hockey, girls' varsity ice hockey, and girls' varsity lacrosse.
Grace Hobbes ’10 returns to her alma mater as the Ravens’ athletic trainer after serving in a similar role at Providence College for the last several years. She earned a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from the College of Charleston and interned at Bryant University. From there, she pursued her M.S. in Nutrition at Stony Brook University, where she worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer.
Most recently at Providence College, Hobbes served as the assistant athletic trainer in multiple sports, including Division 1 women’s field hockey and basketball, men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs, cross-country and track and field.
A BOC-certified athletic trainer, she holds certifications in CPR and AED, dry needling, COVID-19 contact tracing, Owens Recovery Science Blood Flow Restriction Therapy and IAR Manual Therapy.
Originally from Bristol, Rhode Island, Hobbes graduated from Portsmouth Abbey in 2010. She is an assistant houseparent in Manor House, where she was a student prefect. She is excited to call the Abbey home again, this time with her husband, Tristan.
Jalen is a Business Development Representative for Restaurant 365 where he works with the sales and marketing teams. He was previously in sales with ProPlanner. Jalen was a starting wing player for a European professional basketball team from 2018-2020.
Harry served 25 years in the U.S. Army after being commissioned in the Corps of Engineers in 1979. His military training includes the Basic Officer Course in Engineering, Atomic Demolition Munition School, U.S. Army Airborne School, Ranger School, the Advanced Officer Course in Engineering, and U.S. Defense Mapping School.
Harry has coached volleyball from sixth grade through varsity, and Hawaii club volleyball for HUIKAHI, as well as volleyball and softball for the U.S. Army. An accomplished athlete, Harry played volleyball in high school, college, and the U.S. Army, and also competed in football and baseball before playing college baseball for the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
Professionally, Harry worked for more than three decades as a construction manager with AECOM and Bowers & Kubota. A lifelong water-sports enthusiast, he enjoys surfing, sailing, scuba diving and canoe paddling, and he is an avid traveler. In his downtime, he can often be found watching international volleyball or practicing map orienteering.

Alex graduated from Portsmouth Abbey School in 2012 before earning a degree from Roger Williams. He is currently a coach for 3D New England. In his free time, Alec enjoys spending time with friends and family, hiking, playing squash, and watching sports.

Milmoe
Director of Athletics
Mr. Milmoe joined the Portsmouth Abbey faculty as the Director of Athletics in 2022 after working at some of the best independent schools in the country. A product of boarding school himself, Milmoe attended Lawrence Academy where he played football, wrestling, and lacrosse, earning 12 varsity letters during his high school career. He later graduated with distinction from East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history, and earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Plymouth State University.
Despite spending time at independent schools on both coasts, as well as in the Midwest and South, his heart has always been in New England. “Working at Portsmouth Abbey is a dream come-true for me. A boarding school with student-centered learning and a moral mission is the best form of education in the country.”
Milmoe’s unique, fiery brand of enthusiasm makes participation in the Raven athletic program one of the highlights for students during their high school career.
Outside of work, Milmoe loves to connect with family and friends, quote his favorite movie (Jaws), and volunteer at the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. He lives on campus near the St. Hilda’s Turf Field.
Marc has previously served as a pitching coach for 13U baseball, and he was a JV and varsity coach at the Abbey in 2012 and 2013. He is excited to rejoin the PAS family, and speaks highly of how Head Coach Derek Gittus has grown the program from when he was a player 15 years ago, and a coach 10 years ago. In his free time, Marc enjoys pickup sports, hiking, sailing, cooking and travel.
Dare

St. Leonard's Asst. Houseparent, Coach
Hailing from Dallas, Texas, Dare graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2019 majoring in Medicine, Health, and Society with a concentration in Health in Human Services. While at Vanderbilt he played four years on the Vanderbilt football team and captained the team his senior year.
After College and spending a short time in the NFL, Dare transitioned into the workforce and started his career in health insurance, but with the coming of the pandemic decided to begin a career in Decentralized Clinical trials and Clinical Trial Regulations. He views this industry as the gateway to expanded medical care to underserved populations as it will reduce the cost of Clinical trials and thus allow medications for more rare diseases to make it past the clinical trials stage.
At Portsmouth Abbey, Dare has coached Varsity football, JV Basketball and Track and Field. In 2023, he joined the Office of Development as the Assistant Director of the Annual Fund.
Ralph earned first team all-state RI football honors for two years as a student at Portsmouth High. He was later twice named to All Ivy League Football and finished his college career as Yale’s all time leading receiver in both yards and receptions. He was named to Yale Football’s all time Yale Bowl team, and upon his graduation he signed with the NFL Oakland Raiders. Ralph enjoys spending time with his family, especially if it involves skiing or at Lake Winnipesaukee. Ralph is married to Lauren and they have three boys; Rowen ’29, Harrison, and Duke.
With 18 years of dedicated coaching experience at Portsmouth Abbey School, Hugh Richardson has played an instrumental role in shaping the athletic development of students across several sports. Serving as the head coach for the Girls' Squash and Tennis teams, and as the JV Football coach, he has built a reputation for fostering teamwork, discipline, and skill. His commitment to student-athletes both on and off the field exemplifies the Abbey's values of excellence and sportsmanship.
Mike attended elementary school in Salford, England, and high school in Sweden before returning to England to begin his career as an Assistant Real (Court) Tennis Professional. He started playing squash at 18 at the Manchester Tennis Club, later coaching around Manchester before becoming a Head Court Tennis Professional in Boston in 1980.
He went on to serve as Head Squash Professional at Rhode Island Country Club for 35 years and coached the Abbey boys squash team at Newport Squash Club in the 1990s. He also coached the boys squash team when the new courts were built at Portsmouth Abbey and served as Assistant Golf Coach 2000-2006.
Mike was one of only four World Certified Squash Referees – and the only one in the U.S. – until his retirement two years ago. He has served as Head Referee at more than 50 international squash tournaments. Mike enjoys renovating houses, playing golf and competing in squash singles and doubles. After 33 years, he has recently started returned to playing court tennis in Newport.

Head Coach JV Hockey
Brian coached Abbey hockey for two years in the assistant coach position, and this year will lead the boys junior varsity ice hockey team. He comes to the Abbey after serving as an assistant coach for Salve Regina NCAA DIII men’s ice hockey for three years. He has also been the head coach for Roger Williams ACHA DII men’s ice hockey. Brian has served as the Newport Whalers Youth Hockey Association President for three years and a board member for eight years. He coached Newport Youth Hockey for 12 years.
