Three Raven Wrestlers Receive NWCA Character & Leadership All-American AwardDino De Marzio '26 (right). Fifth-Form wrestlers Dino De Marzio, Colin Lally and Cody Vetrano were among the 1,136 student athletes to receive the National Wrestling Coaches Association’s (NWCA) prestigious High School Character & Leadership All-American Award. Now in its seventh year, this award recognizes high school juniors and seniors who exemplify the core values of dependability, judgment, endurance, initiative, tact, integrity, unselfishness, loyalty and courage—the pillars of strong character and effective leadership both on and off the mat. "These young men and women have shown exceptional leadership and character throughout their high school careers," said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer. "Their dedication to these values is what we need in sports and society. We're incredibly proud to recognize them as NWCA High School Character & Leadership All-Americans," Moyer said. In addition to recognition by the NWCA, De Marzio was also named by the Boston Herald as one of its Prep School All-Scholastic and League All-Stars. Spring Teams Trying to Move ForwardSafe! Ava Gallagher '25. Spring may have sprung, but the weather has not always cooperated. Many team competitions have been cancelled due to weather with intense winds and currents, field conditions, and overall team health. Still, the Ravens have battled through and hope to have their chance in the sun over the next few weeks. Varsity Baseball: With seven wins and one loss, the varsity Ravens are not just seeking another championship season, they are building a strong team spirit. Strong performances all around are contributing to the team’s success, and we look forward to cheering them on. Varsity Softball: The varsity girls are not just high-spirited, they are determined to succeed. With new traditions to motivate players and consistent teamwork on the field, they are seeking to improve their 3-2 record. We know they can do it. Boys' Varsity Lacrosse: With wins against some traditional powerhouses, the varsity lacrosse team has a current record of 6-1. The team has battled the elements in addition to opponents and seeks to continue its dominance on the field. Girls Varsity Lacrosse: With a record of 6-5, the varsity Ravens have been working overtime to protect their position in league play. Look for returning players to keep moving the team forward. Girls Golf: The weather has undoubtedly impacted the golf team the most. The ladies have had some beautiful practice days on the links but have yet to get through a single match uninterrupted by rain, wind, or a large foghorn. Tennis: All Raven teams in tennis have been impacted by injury and weather. As they seek to improve their sets and add more “w”s to their column, we look forward to watching them on the courts. Sailing: The sailing teams are off to a competitive start against some of the top schools in the nation. With many young sailors, the teams are looking to build upon a longstanding tradition at Portsmouth Abbey. Track: Despite high winds and rainy weather, the boys and girls are off to an enjoyable start. Alessandra Cristiani ’24 Continues Success on College CourtsAle Cristiani '24. As a member of the 15th-ranked Babson College women’s tennis team, Alessandra Cristiani has continued her success on the courts. In a recent sweeping of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekly awards, Cristiani and her partner Chaniel Soffer, a sophomore from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, were named Doubles Team of the Week. The duo went 2-0 at number two doubles as Babson split a pair of matches versus nationally ranked foes in Atlanta. They defeated a team from third-ranked Emory University 6-2 to secure the doubles point in a 4-3 loss for the Beavers and followed it up with a 6-3 win in Babson’s 5-2 triumph over number 17 Case Western Reserve.
