Music and laughter filled the air during Portsmouth Abbey School's spring performance season, which began with the Spring Recital on May 6 and concluded with a play, music and dance concert May 16 through 20.

The Spring Recital brought advanced students in lessons, students enrolled in Chamber Music, seniors, and even faculty members together as they presented their work to audiences in the Winter Garden. This year, works from Brahms, Schubert, Chopin, and even The Grateful Dead were featured.

Part Hitchcock and Part Monty Python, the fast-paced whodunit masterpiece “The 39 Steps” brought the house down as students perfected their acting chops and supplied the audience with non-stop laughs, a plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers, and some good old-fashioned romance.

“Embrace the Stage, Ignite the Soul” was the perfect theme for the final performances of the year by Abbey Singers, Sinfonia and students in the dance program. The annual concert doubles as the performing arts version of senior night with music chosen by Sixth Form leaders and pieces choreographed by Sixth Form dancers.
